Are you feeling a little bit lost and need to re-focus?
Do you know what you want but cannot seem to articulate it?
Are always daydreaming of a better future, place or job?
Have you forgotten the daily gratitude’s of life?
A vision board (often referred as Dream board / Treasure Map or a Visual Explorer / Creativity Collage) is typically a canvas board on which you paste images that you’ve torn out from various magazines to make a collage. It’s really that simple.
As a very visual person and being quite crafty at school, I was always flicking though magazines and cutting out pictures, lyrics to songs, funny quotes, clothes and items I dreamt of owning. Little did I know, I was actually creating my future or at least my subconscious future!
Christine Kane says “the idea behind a vision board this is that when you surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to holiday, your life changes to match those images and those desires.”
My current vision board has the ‘car of my dreams’, motivational quotes, quirky sayings, visual designs for my home, holiday destinations, beach and mindfulness (me time) imagery. It also has photos of my 2 crazy kids to remind me of who I need to be for them.
A vision board is a powerful image to remind you of your ‘WHY’? the reason you work so hard, strive for greatness, push yourself, work those long hours, make sacrifices and don’t settle for average and ordinary. In essence to live YOUR life! It should be full of the rewards for your success and the GRATITUDE you display.
At a glance, it also serves as mood board. They lift your spirits when the days are long and you need more oomph! My vision board makes me smile and immediately changes my mood to longing and belonging.
When creating your vision board, add the following words – these are the three core needs of all humans.
- I am ENOUGH
- I am LOVED
- I BELONG
A vision board is easy to create, trust me! You can even make one with your kids. What do you need;
- A white art canvas or pin board – any craft shop, Big W, Kmart or newsagent.
- A collection of newspapers, old and new magazines (The Collective is my fav), brochures, google images or old calendars which have inspo quotes on them, even travel brochures too.
- Scissors and pin/thumb tacks.
Now: GO FOR IT! Get busy and start creating a collective collage of things that move you!
